OWI/AIS sliders have missed out on top ten placings in the opening skeleton World Cup of the season in Germany.

Last year’s world number eight, Emma Lincoln-Smith, was the best of the Australians down the Winterberg track, finishing in 14th place, 2.02 seconds behind race winner and local hero Anja Huber.

Michelle Steele was five places further back in 19th position, 2.97 seconds behind the gold medallist.

Teniele Richards, racing in the first World Cup of her career, was in 23rd place after the first run, missing out on a start in the second run.

The silver medal went to Huber’s team-mate Kerstin Syzmkowiak, with Canada’s Melissa Hollingsworth taking bronze.

Defending World Cup champion Katie Uhlaender of the United States was fourth.

The second event of the season will be held in Altenberg, Germany, on December 5.
