NSW shooter Clive Barton has moved a step closer to competing at his second Olympic Games after a brilliant performance in the men's skeet at the Australia Cup Final in Sydney.

Barton, whose only other Olympic appearance came 11 years ago in Sydney, shot a qualifying score of 121, before hitting 24 targets in the 25 target final to win by four from Victoria's James Bolding.

Barton's total of 121 earned him a performance qualifying score (PQS), which is crucial to the selection of the team for London 2012.

Barton will lead Australia's charge in the men's skeet at the Oceania Championships beginning next month in Sydney, where the team will have the chance to secure two quotas for London in the men's skeet.

"I'm really happy to get the PQS today and it is a great feeling to get it out of the way," Barton said.

"Hopefully we can go to Oceania and knock off the New Zealanders and get the two quota places but we will have to be on our game.

Victoria's Adam Vella continued his stranglehold on the men's trap, adding the Australia Cup Final title to his three Australia Cup Series wins this year.

In other results, 17-year-old 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Alethea Sedgman (VIC) won the women's 10m air rifle.

Australian No.1 Robyn Van Nus (WA) was forced to withdraw after only nine of her 40 shots due to a back injury, but is expected to fully recover in time for the Oceania Championships.

Chloe Esposito (NSW) continued her excellent form, recording a 15-point personal best in setting the best qualifying score (575 out of 600) in the women's sport pistol. Esposito had won the Australia Cup Final in the 10m air pistol just 24 hours earlier ahead of South Australian Hayley Chapman.

The 20-year-old Sydneysider will join younger sister Emily and 19-year-old Chapman in the team for next month’s Oceania Championships as Australia aims to win a quota place in the women’s sport pistol to allow one of the talented young trio a chance to compete at the Olympic Games.

Victorian shooters Stacy Roiall and Lauryn Mark hit form at the right time. Roiall (trap) and Mark (skeet) won their respective events to be primed for the Oceania Championships.

Roiall, the 2010 Commonwealth Games trap pairs gold medallist, hit 22 targets in the single barrel final to upset NSW's Suzy Balogh and Victoria's Laetisha Scanlan.

Mark, meanwhile, went one better than her husband, five-time Olympian Russell, who was pipped by Victoria's Craig Trembath in the double trap final on Friday.

Warren Potent, the 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medallist, scored a dominant victory in the men's 50m rifle prone.

NSW's Potent shot an overall score of 699, including an impressive 104 in the ten-shot final, while South Australia's Jason Lowe finished second and Western Australia's Chris Gulvin claimed third place.

Australia will have the chance to win 15 additional quotas across the rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines for the 2012 Olympics at the Oceania Championships.
