BEACH VOLLEYBALL: Aussie teams have won both the men’s and women’s Australian Beach Volleyball Championships at Manly Beach this weekend, with Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho Del Solar and Chris McHugh and Zachery Schubert claiming gold.

The world number seven-ranked combination of Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho Del Solar scored a 2-1 (16-21, 21-17, 15-10) win over Miki Ishii/Megumi Murakami of Japan to claim the women's championship.

In the men’s, Chris McHugh and Zachery Schubert defeated the French combination of Arnaud Gauthier and Quincy Aye in the final 2-0.

After their win Chris McHugh praised his teammate, who played his first Australian Senior Championship.

"We had a fantastic tournament here at the Australian Championships as part of Volleyfest 2019," he said.

"This has been a great building block for our team and we have taken many steps of progress this weekend. Zachery delivered in some tense situations and kept us a live late last night in the quarter final. This is his first Australian Senior Championship and couldn't have been prouder of him.

"The french guys played great all weekend and are sure to push hard next week in the 3 star event."

The focus now turns to the 3-Star FIVB Tour event at Manly Beach this week; the biggest Beach Volleyball tournament staged in Australia since the Sydney Olympics.
