In the 35 degree heat, China got away to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, with Australia quick to reply in the top of the third when Amanda Doman was walked home.
In the top of the sixth, co-captain Natalie Ward injured her foot and was replaced on base by Danielle Stewart with Kate Quigley scoring.
Danica Howlett came off the bench and got a pinch hit up the middle to allow Danielle Stewart to score and take Australia to a 3-1 lead.
Australia’s pitcher Kelly Hardie managed to grind her way through the first few innings, keeping China to one run, and was replaced by Tanya Harding, in her 250th game, in the top of the fourth who complimented Hardie’s work holding the bats.
