Australia continued its domination of the Asian-Oceania round of the Women’s World League water polo event in Yongzhou, China, beating China A 10-7.
Australia appeared to take the Chinese lightly and paid the price with head coach Greg McFadden laying down the law after the game.
“It was a very physical game and the Chinese played like their lives depended on it and it does. We played like we had the points," McFadden said.
"Bec Rippon (team captain) played like a winner does. It’s up to the others to play to her level if they want to go anywhere.”
The team wants to go all the way to the Super Final in Italy but tonight it struggled to contain China’s rough tactics, drawing the first quarter 2-2 and winning the next three 3-2, 3-2 and 2-1.
Australia only converted three from eight on extra and defended four from seven.
New Zealand, whom Australia will play tomorrow in the return matches, beat China B 9-5.
