Dale Begg-Smith continued his brilliant run of form in Japan at the end of last week, winning bronze in a World Cup moguls event in Naeba to follow his silver the week before in Inawashiro.

The 20-year old freestyle skier qualified fourth with 25.51 points behind leading qualifier Jeremy Bloom of the United States on 26.24 points.

In the final, he stepped it up to record 27.12 points moving into third place behind Bloom and Canadian Marc-Andre Moreau.

It was his third podium result in the past four events, and his fifth straight top five placing.

With just two events of the season remaining, Begg-Smith has consolidated his grip on third place in the World Cup standings, 57 points clear of Travis-Antone Cabral of the US.

Bloom has an unbeatable lead in the title chase with 640 points, with team-mate Nathan Roberts on 422. Begg-Smith has 401 points and a shot at runner-up over the next two rounds, one to be held at the Torino 2006 Olympic venue of Sauze d’Oulx and the other in Voss, Norway.
