SAILING: Olympic sailing gold medallist Mathew Belcher has extended his unprecedented 17-month win streak by taking victory at the season's first European World Cup regatta with crewmate Will Ryan.

Belcher has won every event he's contested since November 2011, including two world championships and last year's London Olympic 470 dinghy competition with former crewmate Malcolm Page.

And the Gold Coast native added to his bulging trophy cabinet on Sunday morning (AEDT), with a relatively easy victory in the 470 competition at the World Cup off Palma, Majorca.

It also extended Belcher and Ryan's win streak as a crew.

They've won every regatta they've contested since teaming up in late 2012, including a record ten races in a row at December's Sail Melbourne World Cup event.

"The motivation is right up there," Belcher said in Palma.

"There are a lot of teams that have new partnerships and the ones that haven't are obviously in very good shape from the Olympics.

"So for us it was essential to be here."

Australian Laser class sailor Tom Burton won a silver medal at the regatta.

The current world No.1 started the final day's racing in the overall lead but was disqualified for a false start and had to settle for second behind New Zealand's Andy Maloney.

Former laser radial world champion Brendan Casey was ninth overall in the Finn class at Palma.
