Australia has produced its best result at the World Short Track Speed Skating championships since 1999, Alex Merriman finishing in 16th place overall. Merriman, who was the standout member of the Olympic Winter Institute team during the World Cup season, backed up at the world titles for 15th place in the 1500m, 16th in the 1000m and 17th in the 500m.

Lachlan Hay finished 34th, while Emily Rosemond was 35th overall.
 
Australia's 5000m relay team of Jeremy Beck, Ben Southee, Elliott Shriane and Hay finished in seventh place, with Merriman unable to take his place in the team due to a back injury.
