Craig Branch will miss the final World Cup downhill events after injuring his ankles in a training mishap.
The Perisher Blue skier has some bone bruising and has also strained a main tendon on the inside of both ankles after skiing into a hole on a lift access track in Whistler.
“I thought I might be able to tough it out but I was in too much pain trying to ski today,” Branch said after pulling out of the super G and two downhill events scheduled for Kvitfjell, Norway.
“I know it wasn’t going to hold up to an icy bumpy World Cup course with a 60m jump in it.”
“I am really disappointed to miss the last World Cups that I have been looking forward to for a while now, especially as I’ve been in good form lately.”
Branch is hoping to be recovered enough to race several Europa Cup downhills starting next week.
