Jono Brauer has finished in 47th place in the opening slalom of the World Cup season, held in Park City, Utah. The OWI athlete was 4.19 seconds behind tied first run leaders Rainer Schoenfelder of Austria and reigning World Cup slalom titleholder Kalle Pallander of Finland, missing a place in the 30 man final.
The race was won by Pallander in a time of 1 minute 35.91, with Austria’s Manfred Pranger in second and Italian Giorgio Rocca in third.
Schoenfelder missed a place on the podium amid some controversy, initially getting a second run because a course official had fallen near the Austrian as he negotiated the Upper Clementine course, then having the re-run disallowed after protests.
Earlier in the week, Jono had finished in equal tenth place in a Nor-Am slalom in Winter Park, Colorado, tied with USA skier Chip Knight.
Knight finished the 2003 season at 17th on the World Cup slalom standings.
The next technical World Cup event is a giant slalom in Val d’Isere on December 13th.
