DIVING: Olympic Silver Medallist Brittany Broben (QLD) has blitzed the field in the women’s 10m final on Day 3 of the Diving Australia Open Championships.

In winning her first open national title, Broben impressed the judges scoring 8’s to 9’s on most of her dives. In a world-class performance, Brittany scored 385.45, almost 20 points more than her Olympic Silver medal performance in London.

Emily Boyd (QLD) and Lara Tarvit (QLD) fought it out for the 2nd and 3rd places respectively, with 295.60 and 280.50 points.

After a win on 1m yesterday, Matthew Mitcham was unable to compete in the men’s 3m final and withdrew due to injury. Following the march-on for the event, Mathew was running to commence his warmup and slipped on pooldeck. He was given immediate medical attention and taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, but was later cleared of any serious injuries.

The competitors had to regroup after the incident and James Connor (VIC) went on to win the event with a score of 409.20. Sixteen year old Australian Youth Olympic Festival athlete Josh Kehagias (VIC) and 18-year old Darcy Taylor (VIC) claimed silver and bronze with 373.80 and 367.65 points.

Tomorrow will be the final day of the championships and will feature the Men’s 10m and Women’s 3m finals.
