FIGURE SKATING: Just days after her outstanding performance in Oberstdorf to qualify for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, Brooklee Han is back on the ice, competing in the Junior Grand Prix in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The 18-year-old was sitting in 11th position after the short program of the ladies' individual, earning 47.09 for her efforts. Han was not able to replicate her personal best performance of 48.74 that she scored in the Olympic Qualifying Event, although she did score a higher Technical Elements Score (TES) than in Germany, which is a promising sign for her future competitions.

Han went on to place 10th in the free skate and finish 11th overall on a final score of 135.45.

"Overall I was happy with my performance here in Ostrava," Han said at the conclusion of the competition.

"My short program was better than at Nebelhorn Trophy and I was basically happy with the long program.  I had a mistake with a triple salchow but otherwise things went well. Two of my elements were leveled differently than they have been in the past, but I was pleased with my execution."

Despite the short turnaround between competitions, Han was happy to have the practice and to be able to regain her focus after such an exciting and stressful event in Oberstdorf.

"I find it difficult to have such little ice time for practice when I compete back to back weekends," Han said, "but it was a great experience and I will be able to draw from in the future."

Han will now take some time to review her programs ahead her next event in Latvia at the start of November.

"Serhii and I have decided to make some changes for my long and short programs for my next event," she explained. "I want to challenge myself with some more technically demanding elements. I plan to continue to work on developing my skating at the elite Senior Ladies level."
