FREESTYLE – MOGULS: The Australian women’s Moguls team will have another chance to prove themselves, after missing out on automatic entry to the finals.
Britt Cox finished 12th in the qualification round on Thursday night local time, narrowly missing out on the top ten position needed to progress through.
“I’m happy with how I skied, but there’s definitely room for improvement,” Cox said.
The 19-year-old scored 20.19 for her run and will review video footage to help her master the challenging course.
“There are a few rhythm changes in the middle of the moguls. If you get that right it can be really fun with a little bit of agility involved,” she said.
Olympic debutants Taylah O’Neill (18.57) and Nicole Parks (18.49) placed 16th and 17th respectively.
“That was amazing. Standing up the top and looking down seeing the big crowd, knowing I was about to do my first Olympic run was such an amazing feeling. It’s just a dream come true,” O’Neill said.
She was happy with her tidy run, but wants to push her speed in the next qualification round.
Parks says the course is in top condition. While her backflip down the bottom was good, she’s looking to improve on her 360 for Saturday’s competition.
“I’d just like to clean up my top air and then keep the rest of the run that I had today,” Parks said.
The Australians will bump off in the second qualification round at 6pm on Saturday (1am AEDT Sunday).
Reigning Olympic champion Hannah Kearney (USA) and all three of Canada’s Dufour-Lapointe sisters (Chloe, Justine, Maxime) sailed through to the first of three finals later that night.
