Camplin, who had to settle for the silver medal in yesterday’s opening round when beaten by just 0.65 of a point by China’s Nannan Xu, crashed heavily and so will have to wait another year to try again for what is proving to be an elusive victory at her home mountain.
Ierodiaconou, who took the bronze medal in yesterday’s first round of the Suzuki Freestyle FIS World Cup season, again landed her triple-twisting double somersault today to post a score of 95.85 points, exactly the same score registered by Bauer.
There are three Chinese competitors in the top five and five in the 12-skier final, after Jiao Wang qualified third with an opening jump worth 91.35 points and Xin Xin Guo posted the fourth-best score of the morning (86.15) with Xu not far behind (85.52).
Up-and-coming Aussie Bree Munro posted her best World Cup result yet with a 13th placing, narrowly missing her first final, while fellow Flying Kangaroo Liz Gardner was unable to compete after suffering concussion in a training fall yesterday.
The men’s qualifying will get underway shortly, with several competitors looking for an improved showing in today’s perfect conditions, after yesterday’s men’s final was badly affected by a heavy snowfall.
Canadian Steve Omischl will be trying to repeat his round one victory, while 2002 Olympic gold medallist Ales Valenta, of the Czech Republic, and Russian World Champion Dmitri Arkhipov will be amongst those challenging for the top of the podium.
