Emma Chapman-Davies has broken through for her first Europa Cup mogul skiing podium, taking bronze in the duals in Engelberg, Switzerland.

A day earlier, the NSWIS/SSA Mogul Skiing Team member had equalled her best result in Europa Cup single moguls, finishing in fifth place.

In the duals, Chapman-Davies qualified in fourth, then won her first dual encounter against Slovenian skier Nina Bednarik to go into the semi-finals.

In the semi-final she faced the highest ranked competitor, Yuliya Galysheva, but was unable to match the Kazakhstan skier’s speed.

In the battle for third and fourth places, the Australian defeated Germany’s Marie-Therese Schraudolf by 14 points to 11, claiming the bronze, while Galysheva went on to take the gold over Constanze Kraus of Germany.

“Emma has improved her skiing dramatically in the past few weeks and the results are now showing,” said Jussi Kinnunen, coach of the team.

“In general terms, I am personally very happy about the efforts of all our skiers in training and in competition this season and I’m confident that the rising standard of mogul skiers in Australia will continue.”
