Australia’s Britteny Cox has missed out on qualifying for the final of the women’s moguls at Cypress Mountain.
In rainy conditions and on soft snow Cox, the youngest competitor of any nation at this year’s Olympic Games, did not let the enormity of the situation phase her as she put in a composed run down the course with minimal mistakes.
Cox, 15, received a score of 19.87, combining 10.7 in turns, 4.02 for air and 5.15 in speed to leave her in 23rd position, with the top 20 qualifying for the final later this evening.
United States mogul skier Hannah Kearney qualified for the final with a score of 25.96 and will ski last in the final. Canadian favourite and reigning Olympic champion Jennifer Heil qualified second fastest and will aim to be the first Canadian to win a gold medal on home soil.
The experience the young Australian will have gained from competing against the world’s best will undoubtedly benefit her in future years and she was happy with her run.
"I'don't know where I'll be but if I train hard I'll be in Sochi," Cox said. "I was just so excited that I put down the run. I'll have to watch it back on video and break it down to little pieces. I need to get stronger and get my jumps bigger.
"I was just looking at the course as if it was any other competition.
