Tatiana Borodulina starts her Winter Olympics campaign on Saturday, the Russian-born short track speedskater eyeing off a medal in her debut Games for Australia.

Borodulina will contest the heats of the 500m event, her pet distance in the sport.

The 25-year-old won back-to-back gold medals in World Cup events over the distance last year and is said to be in good form.

Steven Bradbury, a shock winner in the 1000m event at Salt Lake City eight years ago, said he had been very impressed with Borodulina in training and believed she could even medal at the longer distances.

Meanwhile the men's alpine skiing downhill scheduled for Saturday at Whistler has been postponed by at least two days due to heavy snow and rain at the site.

That will affect Australia's Craig Branch and Jono Brauer with training having been hampered by weather to the point that more than half the field has not had a full run on the course.

Branch had back problems in January and didn't ski for the month but was pleased with how he had pulled up after some skiing in Whistler, so much so that he enjoyed some recreational riding in fresh snow when the final training run was cancelled on Friday.

"After (Thursday) training run my back was completely fine so my body was good and I feel ready to go," the three-time Winter Olympian said.

Brauer has also had a disrupted campaign after struggling with injury.

A promising junior racer, Brauer's career has been racked with knee problems and he was just glad to get to the starting gate.

"The knee's been pretty sore and it hasn't been the best lead-up but it's OK at the moment so we'll see how we go," Brauer said.

Britteny Cox heads up the Australians in action on Saturday, the baby of the team competing in the moguls.

"I have felt very comfortable on the course, my first day of training went well, I feel I have improved each day," Cox said.

"They are predicting tough conditions, but I have competed in similar weather in the past, so I am not concerned."
