Dale Begg-Smith has finished in ninth place in the men's moguls World Cup in Deer Valley.
Begg-Smith over-rotated in his second jump at the bottom of the Utah course, landing badly and forfeiting any chance of a podium.
It was only the second time the 21-year-old Olympic champion has missed a medal in the past eleven events.
"Dale was heading for the podium before the bottom jump, maybe not gold, but a medal," said Olympic Winter Institute Head mogul skiing Coach Steve Desovich.
"He's not really confident on that jump yet, and it doesn't quite have the range he needs, but it's something we're working on."
"Ramone had a reasonable run, but it was a bit of a sub par day in general for us today."
New member of the OWI team Ramone Cooper was again the best of the remaining Australians finishing in 26th place on 22.06 points, with Michael Robertson in 41st position on 14.37 points and Nick Fisher in 49th place on 5.35 points.
The gold medal went to US skier Nathan Roberts, the win giving him a total of 145 points on the World Cup standings, 16 points ahead of Begg-Smith.
The OWI team will contest a dual moguls event in Deer Valley on Sunday morning Australian Summer time.
