Luke Deane has won the first FIS race of his career, taking the gold in giant slalom in Maria Alm, Austria.

Luke Deane has won the first FIS race of his career, taking the gold in giant slalom in Maria Alm, Austria.

The Skiing Australia/New South Wales Institute of Sport team member posted a two run time of 1 minute 52.88 seconds to defeat Czech Petr Zahrobsky by .14 of a second. Canadian Patrick Biggs was third.

The win gave Deane FIS points of 23.66.

A day earlier, Deane and Jono Brauer had competed in another FIS race in Kirchberg, Austria, against a strong World Cup field.

Brauer finished in 11th place, with Deane in 33rd position.

Brad Wall raced a giant slalom in Maria Alm the same day as the Kirchberg event, finishing in 11th place.
