Déjà vu for Campbell-Pegg as Germany reigns supreme

Hannah Campbell-Pegg has concluded her second Olympic Games, placing 23rd in the women’s luge at the Whistler Sliding Centre.

Hannah Campbell-Pegg has concluded her second Olympic Games, placing 23rd in the women’s luge at the Whistler Sliding Centre.

The result replicates Campbell-Pegg’s result from four years ago in Torino and was a good improvement from the first day of action, which she finished in 26th position.

On the second day of competition Campbell-Pegg scored runs of 42.606 and 42.519 for on a combined total of 2:50.222.

The New South Wales luger’s last run was her quickest and well received by the large and energetic crowd in Whistler who created an intense atmosphere with their cow bells, shouting and raucous cheering.

Campbell-Pegg said she employed a different outlook for the second day of competition.

“I went out with a new attitude which was to have fun, because yesterday I made a driving mistake on one of the corners,” Campbell-Pegg said.

“I’ve been brutalised on the start, my sled doesn’t turn very well, but that’s the way it is.”

“I just thought, just have fun. These are my last runs of the season, so enjoy myself, that’s what I did. I had two pretty good runs, a little driving mistake on 11 on the 1st run. But after that, it was good”

“I’m taking some good memories from this but also some emotional ones. The track itself is a very good track”

German luger Tatjana Huefner improved upon her bronze medal from Torino by sliding to the gold, almost half a second ahead of Austrian Nina Reithmayer, while German Natalie Geisenberger continued her strong form over the past two years by claiming the bronze medal.
