Delfour to contest Rio Olympic Test event
World no.3 Lucien Delfour will contest the Canoe Slalom Rio Test Event with Jess Fox set to train on the new course.

CANOE-SLALOM: Lucien Delfour will be Australia’s sole representative at the Aquece Rio International Test Event which commences in Brazil on Wednesday.

The current world number three has spent the past few days training on the Olympic whitewater course in Deodoro.

“It is a bit tricky for sure. The water is really warm so it effects the boat quite a bit,” Delfour said.

“Overall I think the course is pretty small. The course isn’t very steep, the water is fairly slow, lots of stoppers, no waves unfortunately.

“It is still fun though.”

The Olympic Test event will be staged over four days with Delfour set to feature in the K1 men’s elimination runs on Wednesday in Brazil before moving on to the heats on Saturday, and the semifinals and finals on Sunday.

The event will provide Delfour with a great opportunity to race on the Olympic course, get a gauge of his competition and learn as much about the venue as he can to try and gain a competitive advantage over his rivals leading into the Olympics next year.

London Olympic silver medallist Jessica Fox will join Delfour in Brazil on Saturday.

Fox will not compete at the Test event but will spend next week training at the venue. Read a blog from Jess about travelling with all her gear >>>
