ALPINE SKIING: Dom Demschar has finished 33rd in the men's Giant Slalom at YongPyong Alpine Centre.
Competing in his second Olympic Games in PyeongChang, Demschar finished 8.71 seconds behind Marcel Hirscher of Austria.
Australia’s other competitor in the race, Olympic debutant Harry Laidlaw, did not finish his first run.
Demschar got down the course on his opening run in 1:13.21 to sit in 37th before finishing in 1:13.54 in his final run.
Demschar's teammate Harry Laidlaw was unfortunately one of over 25 athletes in the field of 110 that did not complete the course.
Laidlaw was skiing well and sitting 41st in the third and final split before he went down.
"I had to miss the Super G because I had a bad back so I'm stoked that I could even make it to the start today," Laidlaw said.
"I got disqualified which is a bit of a bummer.
"Most people do this sport because it isn't easy. When it is good it is rewarding, but there is a lot of down to it."
Having competed in the green and gold at the 2012 Youth Olympics, Laidlaw has dreamt of the moment he could call himself a Winter Olympian.
"It's a pretty crazy feeling, I'm super stoked.
"It would have been nice to have been physically better and have a better finish but it's an unreal feeling to know I'm an Olympian."
