ALPINE SKIING: Australia’s Dominic Demschar has pulled out of his debut Olympic event the Men’s Super G on Sunday.
The decision was made to preserve the 20-year-old for his more favoured Giant Slalom and Slalom events later in the competition.
In consultation with his coaches Demschar’s sore back will limit him to two events in Sochi.
If the Austrian-born Aussie is successful in his goal to make the top 30 in the Giant Slalom than he will be the first Australian male to achieve the feat since Malcolm Milne at the 1972 Sapporo Games.
Next up at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Centre is the Women’s Giant Slalom where Greta Small will continue her five event program alongside fellow Olympic debutants Lavinia Chrystal and Emily Bamford on Tuesday.
