Following the success of its medal design competition for the Singapore 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games, the IOC is once again offering fans

Following the success of its medal design competition for the Singapore 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is once again offering fans a chance to make Olympic history by designing the Olympic medal for the first edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games.

People around the world are invited to submit their designs for the medals, which will be awarded at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria, from 13 to 22 January, 2012.

Gian-Franco Kasper, Chairman of the Coordination Commission for Innsbruck 2012, said, “We are really excited to launch this new competition. We look forward to engaging with fans and can’t wait to discover the creativity and imagination of young people across the world.”

The public will be invited to vote for their favourite medal designs and the ten most popular designs will then be submitted to an IOC jury, which will select the final winner.

The winning designer will win a trip to the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games as well as a replica of the gold medal featuring their design. Click here to visit the dedicated medal design website.

Key dates:

  • Design submissions will be accepted from 1 March to 29 April 2011
  • Online public voting will take place from 4 May to 30 June 2011
  • The winner will be announced in summer 2011
