SHOOTING: Day 2 of the shooting program at the Royal Artillery Barracks was not a kind one for the Australian contingent.
In the women’s 10 metre air pistol, Dina Aspandiyarova finished in 14th place with a score of 382, while Lalita Yauhleuskaya was back in 40th position with a score of 371.
Neither shooter made the final. In the women’s trap, Australia’s Lauryn Mark missed a place in the final, with a final score of 59 out of 75 in often blustery and wed conditions.
Mark fought hard after a disappointing opening score of 17 had her on the back foot.
“To be honest, I’m totally gutted,” Mark admitted.
“I was really nervous before the start of competition and it showed.”
Mark said she will have a long think about whether she will continue in the sport.
“I’ve got a decision to make, but now is not the time for that,” she said. “I’m a mother and I have business commitments as well, so there are a few things to weigh up”.
There are four Australians in action on day three of the shooting program.
Keith Ferguson and Clive Barton will contest qualifying in the men’s skeet, while Dane Sampson and William Godward take to the range in the 10 metre air rifle competition.
