Norwegian Lars Bystoel won the K90 normal hill ski jumping in dramatic circumstances at Pragelato on Day 2.
Norwegian Lars Bystoel recovered from a dramatic disqualification over a uniform breach – and then reinstatement - to take gold in the K90 normal hill ski jumping with a total score of 266.5 at Pragelato on Day 2.
Leading into the final, four jumpers were disqualified during the qualification round for breaching equipment regulations, including favourite Masahiko Harada of Japan.
Harada’s skis were judged too long for his weight and three others were disqualified for breaching suit regulations, including Lars Bystoel who jumped 104.5 metres to lead the field.
But in a dramatic turnaround, Bystoel was allowed to compete in the final because he had pre-qualified owing to his top-15 ranking in the current World Cup standings.
Dual Olympic champion, Simon Ammann from Switzerland, qualified with a jump of 92.0 metres, just 90 minutes after a heavy fall in the trial round. He later withdrew with an injured knee and ankle.
Finland’s Matti Hautamaeki won silver with a combined total of 265.5 and Roar Ljoekelsoey of Norway took bronze with 264.5.
