En Route to Paris 2024: Beach Volleyballers in World Champs quarter-finals, final BMX Racing World Cup stages and more

Australia's top women's beach volleyball duo continue their World Championships campaign with Paris 2024 in mind and Australia's world no.1 BMX World Cup racer heads to Argentina to headline the weekend in Olympic sports.

Beach Volleyball - World Championships

Australian beach volleyballers have been hitting it up this week in Tlaxcala, Mexico for the Beach Volleyball World Championships - with the winner from the men's and women's tournaments securing a spot for Paris 2024.

After the first week of competition, only one Aussie team remains in contention for a ticket to next year's Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 silver medallists Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar.


After defeating the 10th seed Italian duo and making it through to the quarter-finals, the women's pair are set to play the fourth-seeded Canadians, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson on Saturday 14 October at 11am AEDT.

BMX - Racing - UCI World Cup Stages 9 and 10

The final two stages of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup kick off this weekend in Santiago del Estero, Argentina from 13-14 October. Current world number one Saya Sakakibara will headline the six-strong Australian team as she looks to repeat last week's back-to-back podium performances and secure the world title.

Other Aussies in action over the two days of competition are Bodi Turner, Oliver Moran, Erin Lockwood, Lauren Reynolds and Izaac Kennedy.

Swimming - World Cup

After topping the medal tally in meet one of the Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany last weekend, the Aussie Dolphins are headed to Athens, Greece for the second meet.


Taking place at the Athens 2004 Olympic venue from 13-15 October, last week's gold medallists Kaylee McKeown, Brendan Smith, Lani Pallister, Isaac Cooper, Ben Ambruster, Bronte and Cate Campbell, Leah Neale, and Alex Perkins are hoping to back up their performances.

Golf - Ladies Championships

Tokyo 2020 Olympian Minjee Lee, Grace Kim and Karis Davidson are all contesting the LPGA Shanghai tournament currently taking place through Sunday 15 October.

As at 3:30pm AEDT Minjee is best placed on the leaderboard during the first round, in a tie for 17th.

Looking ahead to next week, five Australian golfers will compete in the Ladies Championship, held for the first time at the Seowon Valley Country Club in Seoul, Korea.

The tournament will be a 72-hole stroke play format over four days of competition, from October 17-22. Top Australian player Minjee Lee will headline the Aussie team and will be joined by Grace Kim, Hannah Green, Stephanie Kyriacou and Sarah Kemp.

Badminton - Bendigo International

The Bendigo International wraps up over the weekend with the finals to take place on Sunday 15 October.


Australian Badminton players have taken on players from all over the world over the course of the tournament, vying for all-important world ranking points that will go towards Paris 2024 qualification.
