En Route to Paris 2024: Olympic quota spots on offer for sport climbers, Australian PGA Championship and more

Sport Climbing - Oceania Qualifiers

More than 60 athletes from Australia, New Zealand and Guam will compete in the IFSC Oceania Qualifying event in Melbourne this weekend, from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 November.

Olympic quota spots are on offer at the event, with the winners of the men’s and women’s speed and combined lead/boulder events securing their spot at next year's Games.

Tokyo 2020 Olympian Oceania Mackenzie will be one to watch at the competition, after her impressive semi-finals finish in the combined lead/boulder event at the 2023 IFSC Climbing World Championships.

Golf - Australian PGA Championship

The Australian PGA Championship is back at the Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane, with round two set to commence from 11am AEST on Friday 24 November.

Spaniard Joel Nachshon leads the field after the first round at eight-under, with Aussie Min Woo Lee occupying second spot at seven-under.

Tennis – Davis Cup Finals

Australia's Davis Cup campaign is still alive after Alex de Minaur saved Team Australia from the brink of defeat to reach the semi-finals.

Trailing 0-1 in the rubbers and with world no.31 Jiri Lehecka (CZE) serving to Alex for the win, Alex rallied to win a second-set tiebreaker and closed with a three-set win 4-6 7-6(2) 7-5.

Beach Volleyball - Geelong Beach Volleyfest

Geelong Beach Volleyfest continues this week at Rippleside Beach, on now through Sunday 26 November with teams from around the globe chasing vital world ranking points ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Aussies Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher are fresh off a fourth-place finish on the Beach Pro Tour in Thailand last weekend, while Georgia Johnson and Jasmine Fleming lead the women's charge after winning the national tour event in Geelong on Sunday.

Weightlifting, Archery and Sailing – Pacific Games

The Pacific Games have kicked off in Honiara, Solomon Islands where 70 Australian athletes are set to compete across the two-week Games period.

On Friday Tokyo 2020 Olympian Matthew Lydement will vie for medals in the men's 109kg weightlifting, and later in the day our archers Laura Paeglis, Peter Boukouvalas, Ryan Tyack and Sarah Haywood will look to add to their medal tally in the mixed team and individual events.

While Australian sailors Amelia Wilson, Charlotte Wormald and Jarrod Jones continue their campaigns with races on Friday, Saturday and next week at the Iumi Water Sports Park.
