The surprise packet of the 2012 season, Chloe Esposito has won group A at the Women’s qualification at the 2012 Modern Pentathlon World Championships in Rome.
The young Australian, who is competing in a World Championships for the first time, ended up easily beating her more famous opponents Amelie Caze (FRA) and Lena Schoneborn (GER) who both looked in fantastic form and qualified with relative ease.
The 2012 season has already exceeded all of Esposito's expectations. The Sydneysider finished fifth in the first World Cup of the season and then went on to win bronze in round two at the home of the 2016 Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Before this season her previous personal best in a World Cup was 11th in Hungary in May, 2011. Now she lines up for the World Championship final filled with confidence.
The defending World Champion Victoria Tereshuk (UKR) failed to qualify for Saturday’s final. The World #3, started 13th in the combined event, which would usually be enough for the exceptionally fast runner to qualify. However she struggled massively shooting and dropped back to 16th position.
Tereshuk will be joined by highly ranked Margaux Isaksen (USA) and Eva Trautmann (GER) watching the final from the side lines as they were unable to keep up the pace and finish in that vital top 12. The top 12 from all three qualification rounds compete the final.
