Olympic Champion Jess Fox has continued her golden year, taking out the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup kayak final in France, also winning the overall K1 World Cup season crown.
The following day, the four-time Olympic medallist also won silver in the C1 in Pau, France, placing second overall in the C1 ICF World Cup season standings.
Heading into the K1 final on Saturday with three World Cup wins and a bronze, the K1 Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medallist had a handy 38 point lead over Germany’s Elena Apel in the women’s K1.
After a strong win in Pau at the final, she clinched another gold to convincingly take out the overall ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup K1 title for 2021.
“I’m so happy with my racing this season, it’s been an amazing season so far and to win today and win the overall [crown] is just an amazing feeling," Fox said after her race.
“The overall [crown] is always a marker of consistency in the season. It’s really special to know that I’ve been a contender at every race, I’ve been on the podium at every race, I’m always really proud to be playing for the World Cup,” she said.
She raced again the following day in the C1 final, but was forced to settle for the silver behind Czech's 23-year-old Tereza Fiserova.
Fox was very fast on the course, but four penalty seconds cost her the win in Pau. At the end Fox was 1.45 seconds behind Fiserova in second place, with German Elena Apel third.
With double would cup points up for grabs in the final event, Fiserova also won the overall women's C1 world cup standings, four points ahead of Fox with Apel third.
Fox completed her collection of medals in Pau, winning bronze in the non-Olympic women's extreme slalom final.
In other Australian results, fellow Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016 Olympian Lucien Delfour placed 38th in the Men's K1 and 11th in the extreme slalom. Kaylen Bassett finished 34th in the Men's C1 and 45th in the extreme slalom.
Noemie Fox placed 18th in the Women's C1, 46th in the K1 and 20th in the extreme slalom.
The Australian Team will now turn their attention to the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships that will be held from 22-26 September 2021 in Slovakia.
