LUGE: Sochi Olympian Alex Ferlazzo is set to return to the luge track this weekend, kicking off his 2018 Olympic Qualification journey at the Viessmann World Cup in Innsbruck, Austria.
Ferlazzo will line up with 57 of the world's best athletes, all vying for all important 2018 Olympic Qualification points.
The 2016/2017 season saw Ferlazzo record his best world ranking to date, finishing the season in 28th place, with the top 37 athletes qualifying for the PyeongChang Games in February. Last season also saw Ferlazzo finish in 8th place at the U23 World Championships and 24th at Open World Championships.
Born and raised in the Tropical North Queensland city of Townsville, Ferlazzo made his Olympic debut at the 2014 Sochi Games, only four years after first picking up the sport.
The now 22-year-old finished 33rd at his first Olympic appearance and will be looking to improve on that result four years on as a more experienced athlete.
Racing for the first Viessmann Luge World Cup of the season kicks off on Friday at 9:30am local time (7:30pm AEST).
