Demian Franzen has produced the best Australian result at the World Alpine Skiing championships in Are, Sweden, finishing in 19th place in the slalom. Franzen recorded a two run time of two minutes 7.82 seconds, 10.49 seconds behind the winning time of Austrian Mario Matt who took the gold with 1:57.33.

Fellow Ski and Snowboard Australia team-mates Bryce and Hugh Stevens both failed to finish the first run, which also accounted for 34 of the 74 competitors, including World Cup slalom leader Jens Byggmark of Sweden and overall World Cup leader Aksel Kund Svindal of Norway.
 
In earlier events at the championships, Hugh Stevens finished in 49th place in the giant slalom and Will Clifford was the best of the Aussies in the super G, placing 56th.
