Newfound figure skating pair Peyton Bellamy-Martins and Krysthof Pradeaux reflect fondly on their fourth-place finish on day 10 of the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in the Republic of Korea.

Figure Skating – 4th in free skate and overall for young pairing

Peyton Bellamy-Martins and Krysthof Pradeaux performed to Cody Fry’s ‘I Hear A Symphony’ in their final act at Gangwon 2024 in the free skate.

They received a free skate score of 59.33 to sit fourth in the field. Combined with Saturday’s 29.03 personal best short program score, the pair was fourth overall on 88.36 behind the bronze-medalling Spanish pair Shan Carolina Campillo and Pau Vilella on 94.03.

The double flip, single axel, single Axel and SEQ element garnered a score of 3.72, the most from the judging panel.

"We were really proud of how we skated today,” Peyton said. “It was a lot better than yesterday which is what our goal was. We're definitely proud of how we did.

"It's been quite a journey. We're really glad to be here and the opportunity is great, not many people can say they've been to the Youth Olympics before.

"I enjoyed how the crowd cheered for us, it gave me a boost."

Kryhstof was pleased with how they performed together and the experience of the Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics has him craving more international competition.

"We haven't known each other for very long, we both skate at different ice rinks and during the week we both alternate ice rinks for training,” Kryhstof said.

"I really enjoyed the village life, seeing other sports and other countries compete. Moving forward I will be hoping to get to the Olympic Games."

Tomorrow Sienna Kaczmarczyk’s free skate routine will close out Team Australia’s figure skating events in Gangwon.

Cross-Country Skiing – Four Aussies take on the sprint

Australia’s cross-country skiing quartet have done themselves proud in their opening event of the Games, the men’s and women’s sprint at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre.

Samuel Johnson was 43rd in the men’s field, alongside Clancy Merrick Harvey who came 56th.

"The course started straight into an uphill for half the course and the second half of the course is straight down the hill,” Samuel said.

"The snow was quite cold and firm. We had real fast skis that helped me push up the hills and into the downhills.”

The women’s event kickstarted the morning where Rosie Franzke also came 43rd and Satara Moon 54th.

Today’s sprint carried extra significance for Samuel and Clancy, with the support shown by Samuel’s family and Team Australia at large.

"It means a lot. Usually when I race at international races I don't get to have anyone other than my coaches. It's really nice to have my family from home and other athletes' families as well cheering me along the course,” Samuel said.

"It's a big honour to compete for this team and the country,” Clancy said.

All four athletes are back in action tomorrow for the men’s and women’s 7.5km classic at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre.
