CANOE/KAYAK-SPRINT: Australia's golden men's kayak crew restarted where they left off on Friday in Sydney with victory in their first race since the London Olympics.

CANOE/KAYAK-SPRINT: Australia's golden men's kayak crew restarted where they left off on Friday in Sydney with victory in their first race since the London Olympics.

The champion crew of David Smith, Tate Smith, Murray Stewart and Jake Clear won the K4 1000m final at the canoe sprint Grand Prix at the Sydney International Regatta Centre on Friday.

They were a bit rusty in the Penrith rain but still flexed their muscles in their first competitive race since winning gold at Eton Dorney last August.

They dominated the final as expected, winning in a time of three minutes 3.86 seconds - well clear of Brodie Holmes, Reece Baker, Sam Norton and Daniel Bowker.

"It is always good to keep winning I suppose, plenty of things to work on, it was far from a perfect race but it is still good to get the win," said Stewart.

Earlier in the day Swedish star Anders Gustafsson, New Zealand veteran Ben Fouhy and Tasmanian Sam Norton impressed with all three winning their respective K1 1000 heats.

Joining them in Saturday's final will be Stewart, Clear and Tate Smith, West Australian Bowker, Ken Wallace and Lachlan Tame.

Wallace and Tame also combined to qualify for the men's K2 1000 final after winning their heat in a time of 3:33.61, 3.86s ahead of Baker and Bowker.

Naomi Flood continued her excellent form from the Telstra Ironwoman Series with victory in her K1 500 heat ahead of Olympic teammate Alana Nicholls and Gold Coast's Bernadette Wallace.

Only 0.4 seconds separated the top three girls setting up an exciting final on Saturday where they will face London Olympic K1 200 gold medallist Lisa Carrington.
