Damon Hayler and Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin have both made their way through the snowboard cross qualifying round of the Cypress Mountain World Cup in Vancouver.
Hayler produced the fifth fastest time down the 2010 Olympic course, one minute 21.30 seconds, to trail fastest qualifier Nick Baumgartner of the USA by 0.71 seconds.
Pullin made a couple of mistakes in his qualifying runs, but still managed to secure a place in the 32-man final rounds with 28th place and a best time of 1:23.26.
The bad news, however, was that the two Australians were then drawn into the same round of 32 heat.
The final will be contested early Saturday morning Australian time.
Ski and Snowboard riders Nick Warren and Phillip Mclarn both withdrew from the event following injuries sustained in training.
In the women’s contest, Stephanie Hickey missed a place in the 16-woman finals rounds, recording the 24th fastest time of 1:39.04, 12.09 seconds behind the fastest qualifier Olivia Nobs of Switzerland.
World Cup leader Lindsey Jacobellis was second, 0.83 behind Nobs.
