BLOG: The Aussie Icebirds (Australian Women's Bobsleigh team) are hard at our off season training at the moment. After a few weeks off after a gruelling 2012-2013 season, we started back training again to begin the 10 month preparation leading up to Sochi.
We recently had some initial testing in Brisbane to see where our speed and explosive strength was as a platform for tests later in the year. It was great to see how high a standard we are at already, even with 5 months left of off season training.
Jana Pittman and Astrid Radjenovic have both been busy with a lot of media interviews representing the team over March and April, including promoting our fundraising campaign which was successful.
We have taken the plunge this year to buy a new sled and other equipment for the team. This was with the help of some new sponsors and fundraising from our fans. We are really excited to see how the equipment will propel us forward in 2013!
We are still spending a lot of time searching for sponsors to complete our budget for the Olympic season, and leave no stone unturned towards being successful. We are still around $30,000 off our basic costs budget, and looking for help in our campaign to Sochi.
Aside from that, squad member Ebony Grorincu has made some improvements to her training and form so far this year, and Jamie Hedge is recovery slowly but well from a wrist injury. We have our first official team athletic tests coming up in July, and then selection in August.
It will be a busy year and we hope to have support and share our journey with all our fans towards Sochi!!
