Hay finished in fourth place in the heats of the 1000m, but fought his way through three repechage rounds then won the repechage final to reclaim a place in the main draw quarter-final round.
He unfortunately went out in the that round after being disqualified, but finished in 17th place overall.
Beck also made the repechage final, but finished in fourth place in that round to end up in 19th place.
Earlier in the weekend, Beck had finished in 17th place in the 1500m, with Hay two places behind in 19th position.
Both were well back in the field in the opening 1000m of the meet, Beck placing 34th and Hay 36th.
Korea dominated the top of the podium, with Hyun-Soo Ahn winning the 1500m and the second 1000m, while team-mate Si-Bak Sung won the 500m and the opening 1000m
