World number two aerial skier Lydia Ierodiaconou is under an injury cloud going into the freestyle World Cup competition in Mont Tremblant, Canada, this weekend, an event which will mark the debut of Sydney 2000 gymnastics team member Trudy McIntosh.

Ierodiaconou damaged shoulder ligaments in a fall at an Olympic Winter Institute training camp in mid-December, and has been unable to jump since then.

She spent the Christmas-New Year period in Miami undergoing intensive physiotherapy, and MRI scans this week indicate the injury has improved.

But a decision to allow her to jump will not be made until pre-event training, scheduled for the morning of Sunday January 11th, AEST.

McIntosh, who won gymnastics gold, silver and bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, will be taking another step towards her goal of becoming the first Australian woman to represent her country at both summer and winter Olympic Games.

In late December she won silver in a Nor-Am competition on the Olympic jump site in Park City, and her form on her two double somersaults has been strong in training.

Meanwhile, world number one Alisa Camplin has been in sparkling form at the Olympic Winter Institute training camp in Fortress Mountain and will be looking to produce her second victory in a row for the season, having won in Ruka, Finland, in December.

The reigning World Cup champion won the Tremblant round last year, with team-mate Ierodiaconou in second place.

Victorians Liz Gardner and Lainie Cole will round out the Flying Kangaroos squad. Cole is making a come-back to competition after more than a year out of the sport.

Australia's mogul skiing team goes into the Canadian round of the World Cup full of confidence after Dale Begg-Smith and Michael Robertson both recorded top ten placings in the last event, in December in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.

Begg-Smith finished seventh and Robertson ninth, the first time Australia's mogul skiers have claimed two top ten results in the same World Cup event.

The mogul skiing event is scheduled for the morning of Saturday January 10th, AEST.
