Ilyasov withdraws due to injury
Australia’s Talgat Ilyasov has had to withdraw injured from the men’s 74kg freestyle wrestling elimination rounds.

WRESTLING: Australia’s Talgat Ilyasov has had to withdraw injured from the men’s 74kg freestyle wrestling elimination rounds after facing off against Japan’s Sohsuke Takatani.

The 35-year-old was assisted by medics after popping his elbow out and immediately the match was ceased as Takatani also came to his aid.

The match began with a tight first tussle that saw Takatani pick up two points and get out to an early lead.

Despite a number of strong efforts from Ilyasov, the Victorian struggled to take Takatani down.

Takatani then gained a further lead after a rough struggle between the pair saw Ilyasov thrown down, and he didn’t get back up.

After missing out on a match at the Athens Olympics in 2004 due to injury, this was a tough blow for Ilyasov.

The final score was 5-0 with Takatani successfully progressing.

The latest information on Ilyasov’s injury is that it is his elbow popped out and post-match he was taken directly to medical to get it seen to.
