Australia’s female archery hope Alice Ingley has missed the medal shoot off for the women’s individual event, having been beaten by Moldavian Alexandra Mirca in the fifth set of her 1/8 match.
The result leaves Ingley ranked ninth having clawed her way up the list after initial qualifications had her in 24th place.
"I'm happy with how she shot, and she’s happy with how she placed and really that’s all you can ask for,” coach peter Feeney said.
“She has done very well and staged somevery good come backs.
“I’m pleased with how things have gone for Alice.”
Ingley started the match well, shooting to a two set lead with the Moldavian struggling for early form.
But a fight back in the third and fourth set was enough to clinch victory for Mirca who did not let the early heat get to her.
“I did my best and winning the first set I thought I was in with a good chance,” Ingley said.
“She was very good and deserved the win. I’ll be back here to tomorrow to cheer Ben [Nott] on.”
Yesterday Ingley made the quarter finals of the mixed pair competition with her Japanese partner. She has now finished competition for the Youth Olympic Games.
Nott will take place in the men’s event from 11am tomorrow morning.
