Skiing Australia/New South Wales Institute of Sport skier Luke Deane has been sidelined by injury, and will miss the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old Jindabyne skier tore the meniscus in his right knee while training in a gymnasium in Liechtenstein, just a week after winning his first FIS event in Europe, a GS in Maria Alm, Austria.

He had immediate surgery to repair the knee in Liechtenstein.

Although the operation was successful, the rehabilitation time is six to eight weeks, and Deane decided to return home for rehabilitation rather than stay in Europe for the last few weeks of the season.

The injury is another blow to the Australian alpine skiing contingent following the major knee injury suffered by AJ Bear earlier in January.
