Rising Australian figure skater Cheltzie Lee has finished in 14th place in an ISU Junior Grand Prix competition in Sheffield, England.

Skating in the John Curry Memorial, Lee was in 16th place after the short program, but produced a 12th placing in the free program to end with 104.15 points and 14th overall out of 31 competitors.

Kanako Murakami of Japan won the event with 153.84 points, with compatriot Yukiko Fujisawa in second place on 149.28 points. Angela Maxwell of the USA took third with 147.46 points.

OWI figure skating coordinator Belinda Noonan was delighted with Lee’s performance in the light of her preparation.

“Cheltzie was in a full body brace for 23 hours a day for more than 12 weeks from April on, following a back injury she received in a car accident in Colorado Springs prior to the Junior World Championships.”

“The doctors, physios and John Marsden have done an awesome job getting her going again and strong.”

“She got both triples done in the free program and that’s good work.”

“She only started trying triples again in September, so this event, while it’s about four weeks early for her, is a big effort.”

Australian junior Brendan Kerry was 25th with 104.87 points in the men’s competition.

French skater Florent Amodio won the event with 193.34 points.
