Australian slider Emma Lincoln-Smith has started the second half of the 2010/2011 Skeleton World Cup in good form, finishing seventh in the Austrian round of the series and moving to outright seventh in the World Cup standings.

The AIS scholarship holder performed consistently over her two runs of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic Games course, taking the seventh fastest time on both runs.

German Anja Huber has extended her lead in the World Cup with victory in Austria, her third from the five rounds held so far. Huber now holds a 51-point lead over Great Britain’s Shelley Rudman, with Canadian Melissa Hollingsworth in third place, a further 46 points in arrears.

“I was pleased with the result after the way training had been going during the week,” Lincoln-Smith said after her fifth top 10 finish of the current season.

“I was a bit annoyed with myself as I allowed a few bad sliding habits to come into my runs, but I have to just keep working on staying relaxed and trusting myself and my sled more in the curves.”

Fellow AIS scholarship holders Lucy Chaffer and Michelle Steele had trouble coming to grips with the 1.22 kilometre course in the small Austrian village of Igls, finishing 20th and 21st.

Round six of the Women’s Skeleton World Cup will be held in Winterberg, Germany, on January 22.
