OWI aerial skier Liz Gardner is training in Switzerland with team-mates Lydia Lassila and Bree Munro, working with OWI Aerial Skiing World Cup Team coach Michel Roth. After many years of water rap training in the USA and Canada, the new training regime has been a new experience for Gardner and her fellow scholarship holders.
“Switzerland has been quite the adventure. It has definitely added an extra challenge to the regular summer training.”
“On top of the regular training stresses, we have had to adapt to a NON-ENGLISH training and living environment, which has resulted in many blank looks and confused situations, navigating a new city and learning some new bizarre customs without offending too many locals.”
“However, it has proved to be a fantastic training environment. Everything and everyone is very relaxed at the water ramps here. Everybody is on their own schedule and you always get the training you need and when you need it.”
“Mich (Michel Roth) is amazingly flexible, dedicated and enthusiastic about aerial skiing, which can't help but rub off on us athletes!”
“I have really enjoyed this relaxed environment and managed to perform my first triples off the triple kicker! It was very exciting (and fast) to finally do some triples. I really enjoyed them and am hoping to get Lay-Tuck-Full ready for snow.”
“Training has been progressing very well, although not without some injury delays.”
“Although, all said and done, I will be very excited to finish up the summer and then transfer some new jumping onto snow.”
