Australia’s aerial skiers have missed a place on the podium in a rain-affected World Cup event in Fernie, British Columbia.

Appalling conditions at the Canadian resort saw the event cut to a single jump competition, the second for the season.

The best performance of the Olympic Winter Institute team came from 21-year-old Lydia Ierodiaconou, scoring 93.18 points with her triple twisting double somersault for a fourth place finish.

Victorian team-mate Liz Gardner produced a second consecutive personal best score of 89.30 for her double twisting somersault to finish in seventh place, while Salt Lake 2002 gold medallist Alisa Camplin was in 14th place.

With a start position well back in the field, Alisa got the worst of the conditions, battling water on the jump site in her take-off. She dragged her hands on landing and was marked down to 77.03 points.

The event was won by Veronika Bauer on 97.44 points, the Canadian’s third victory of the season.

The result puts Lydia into second spot on the World Cup rankings on 360 points, eight behind Nina Li of China.

Alisa has moved down to fifth place on 356 points, but remains well in the running for the World Cup title with three events still to come after this weekend’s world championships.
