Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Champion and Tokyo 2020 hopeful, Kaylee McKeown, has claimed another Aussie record while competing at the Sydney Open.

The teenager chipped an impressive 0.18 seconds off her previous 200m backstroke record, setting a new Australian record of 2:04.31.

McKeown kicked off the evening with a preliminary time of 2:05.55 before setting her new personal best which came six months after she set the initial Aussie record back in November 2020, with a time of 2:04.49.

The 19-year-old's new record makes her the fourth-fastest of all-time and so far for this season, McKeown is the only woman globally, to swim the event sub 2:05.

Kaylee wasn't the only one making waves at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, with Rio 2016 four-time medallist, Emma McKeon, claiming the 100m freestyle crown in a personal best time of 52.29 and reigning Olympic Champion Kyle Chalmers stopping the clock in 49.34 for the title in the men's event.
