Cameron Morton has finished in 76th place in the Sprint event at the 2004 World Biathlon championships, his best world championship result.

Morton competed the 10 kilometre course in a time of 36 minutes 6.7 seconds with two shooting faults, five minutes 54.8 seconds behind race winner Raphael Poiree of France, who completed a clear round of the course.

In his previous world championship appearance, in Ruppholding in 1996, Morton was in 80th place in the sprint.

The silver medal in the opening event of the 2004 titles in Oberhof, Germany, went to home town hero Ricco Gross, with Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway taking bronze.

There were 113 competitors in the event, with fellow Australian Mark Raymond one of the four who did not complete the course.
