The annual OWIA fund-raising event, the Black Cockatoo Ball, was held over the opening weekend of the ski season, generating nearly $30,000 to support Institute programs.

Hosted for the ninth year at Mt Buller’s Chalet Hotel, the event was compered by Salt Lake 2002 short track gold medallist and OWI director Steven Bradbury.

Dual Olympic rowing gold medallist Nick Green, a former member of the Oarsome Foursome, and Flying Kangaroos team member Trudy McIntosh were guest speakers.

The total raised on the night was $28,375. The Black Cockatoo Ball has now raised more than $200,000 since its inception in 1996.

The highlight item of the Ball’s auction was a signed and mounted Steven Bradbury skate and Salt Lake photographic commemoration.
