Australia’s Danielle Lynch and Abby Lewtas have been involved in a bobsleigh training accident which has left a German coach with two broken legs.
They were on the training track in Torino, Italy, when their sled struck the coach.
Lynch told officials they had been given the green light and a “yes” to commence their run and could not avoid hitting the coach who was standing on the track at curve nine.
The Australian pair who are attempting to qualify for February’s Winter Olympics continued to the bottom and escaped serious injury.
They were badly shaken by the accident describing it as a “horrifying experience”.
The President of the Australian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association, Henry Jolson, has sent a message to the German Federation wishing the injured coach a speedy recovery.
The coach has also sent the girls a message saying he was sorry for the incident and knew he should not have been on the track.
