Jenny Owens has finished in 17th place in the first of two World Cup ski cross events in Meiringen, Switzerland.
Owens qualified in eighth place, but then was brought down by Swiss skier Sanna Leudi in her round of 32 head-to-head final.
Former alpine World Cup downhill champion Katharina Gutensohn of Austria won that heat and went on to take the gold, defeating ski cross World Cup leader Ophelie David in the quarter-final, the semis and also the final.
David has already won the 2009 title, her sixth straight World Cup crown.
Ski and Snowboard Australia’s Katya Crema finished in 40th place and team-mate Scott Kneller was also 40th in the men’s event.
Kneller will race again tonight (Sunday night Australian time) in a make-up race for the cancelled Grindelwald event of last week.
